PLAYS
A Mourning in April
July 2007. My play A MOURNING IN APRIL has been selected as one of the eight best new short plays in THE ASHLAND NEW PLAYS FESTIVAL this year! They will do a staged reading in late July. I am honored. www.ashlandnewplays.org for more details.
MUSIC
As a result of my father buying a piano for the family back in about 1976, I can, with some bit of confidence declare that I actually did benefit from being the chosen one to take lessons and show some return on his investment. Although I skipped many lessons and ended up just “winging it” through more than one choral accompaniment – I have written a fair number of pieces that I am quite happy with and that have been used for several stage productions. I give the utmost praise to musical directors and accompanists who play my music much better than I ever could!
The Ghost & Mrs. Muir – The Musical
A musical based on the book by R.A. Dick and the film (not the television series) that I wrote along with the help of lyricist Larry Schrupp. With a great cast and a fantastic musical director (Naomi Sanchez), this was a dream come true – but one that would later be crushed.
We recorded a demo CD of the first act and entered into the Stephen Schwartz/Disney ASCAP and made it down to Los Angeles as spectators of the workshop.
The Ghost and Mrs. Muir – The Musical is currently shelved due to some unfortunate copyright issues, but I may revive it and revolve it into something else. Although it seems impossible to me to rework music that was inspired from such concrete, specific characters, I suppose the longer I am away from it, the easier I can detach myself from the original ideas and transform it into something fresh. Stay tuned.

The House of Yes – San Francisco StageWorks
We needed some music for San Francisco StageWork’s production of THE HOUSE OF YES. Of course we didn’t have to look very far. I composed a main theme and several special interludes – along with a climactic thunderstorm of music to underscore this twisted play. I was inspired by the darkness and turbulent nature of sever storms and the calming eye at it’s core. Most of this music came from my loves of mysteries and suspense. One theatre critic reviwed the play and wrote this:
Sharp and zany, the play has a kinky, necrophilic edge and a sweetly melancholic note (complimented by Michael Davison’s original score) that nicely fleshes out what would otherwise be a one-dimensional comedy.

Beautiful Child – Theatre Rhinoceros
I have underscored Theatre Rhinoceros’ production of the West Coast Premiere of Nicky Silver’s BEAUTIFUL CHILD. This play had a tone that appealed to me when I read it and I immediately heard it’s underscore before I could write it down fast enough. Another melancholic success!
